State Fair Was A Record Breaker

23042488_BG1Everyone has their reasons for going to the Ohio State Fair.

For some, it’s the rides, and for others it’s the food. Because of the weather, it seemed that everyone ventured to the fair this weekend.

Fair management is hoping to break their previous attendance record set in 2004 with more than 850,000 visitors.

“It’s really been a banner year for the Ohio State Fair. Our youth participation is up across the board and all of our concessionaires seem to be really happy,” said public relations director Alicia Shoults.

The owners of the Gobblin Gourmet saw record sales of their new taste sensation — deep fried gummy bears. They sold more than 5,000.

“It’s grown in popularity. Next year, we roll out with the full line of all of their gummy bear items, with their snakes, spiders and their skulls,” said owner Robin Smith.

The new ride Moon Raker helped Amusements of America see four record-breaking days on the midway.

Even the sale of champions started strong with a record-breaking bid of $20,000 for a grand champion goat.

But no one would like to break a record more than Brooke Egbert and Madison Clark, who own the Grand Champion Market steer and Reserve Grand Champion steer.

Clark has been participating in 4-H for 10 years and with her steer LC, or Last Chance, it really was her last chance to have one of the top steers in the state.

She said it’s nice to be able to show the hard work she has done.

“The long hours we put in at the barn, and really most people don’t understand that how much work it is,” Clark said.

Clark’s steer sold for $ 35,000, coming close to the record of $38,000, and Egbert’s steer sold for $70,000, which missed the record of $85,000.
