According to the National Center for Health Statistics, 40% of American women have never been married. The large acceptance of cohabitating is a major factor with Black women leading the non-marriage pole with 55%. Statistics come from a study of 22,682 in-person interviews from 2006 to 2010 with men and women (not couples) ages 15 to 44.
